Primary Bedroom Refresh

This Monroe, Wisconsin primary bedroom already had a few strong pieces in place, including the upholstered bed, area rug and teal bedding. What it was missing was the layered, finished feeling that comes from thoughtful lighting, window treatments, textiles and styling.

Our goal was to make the room feel brighter, softer and more intentional without replacing everything the homeowner already owned. The finished space keeps the personality of the original room while making it feel significantly more polished and pulled together.

The Before

The bedroom had a functional furniture layout, but the overall room felt unfinished. The existing ceiling fan visually dominated the space, the dark window treatment made the small window feel even smaller, and the bedding lacked the layering and texture needed to make the bed feel like the focal point of the room.

The room also needed a more cohesive relationship between the upholstered headboard, existing rug, wood trim and teal bedding.

The Design

We chose to work with several pieces the homeowner already had rather than starting over.

The teal bedding and existing area rug provided the color foundation. From there, we introduced lighter textiles and warmer neutral tones to balance the stronger color. White bedding and textured accent pillows soften the bed, while a light blue-green throw connects back to the rug without competing with it. At the window, a roller shade provides privacy and light control while stationary white curtain panels add height, softness and a more finished look.

One of the biggest changes came overhead. The existing ceiling fan was replaced with a decorative woven-style light fixture, instantly making the room feel more intentional and giving the ceiling a much prettier focal point. Finishing touches—including new decor, styling and a more layered bed—helped bring the entire room together.

The Finished Space

The finished primary bedroom feels lighter, calmer and much more complete. The layered neutral bedding allows the teal, pink and soft blue-green accents to stand out without overwhelming the room. White curtains brighten the window wall, while the new ceiling fixture adds warmth and texture overhead.

Most importantly, the room still feels like the homeowner’s space. Rather than replacing every existing piece, we focused on the details that would make the biggest visual difference and created a bedroom that feels comfortable, colorful and intentionally designed.
