A Colorful Living Room Refresh

This Monroe, Wisconsin living room already had a great foundation, but it needed a more intentional layout and the finishing details that would make the space feel complete. Our goal was to create a colorful, comfortable living room that felt collected and personal while working with several of the homeowner’s existing pieces.

We kept the large entertainment center, sectional, coffee table and colorful area rug, then built the new design around them. Updated seating, lighting, window treatments, artwork, accessories and thoughtful styling brought the entire room together.

The Before

The room had plenty of space and several pieces the homeowners loved, but the overall design felt unfinished. The furniture arrangement wasn't making the best use of the room, the large blank wall needed purpose, and the existing ceiling fan and window treatments weren't contributing to the look we wanted.

For the website: I’d use both of these before photos, probably side-by-side. They're actually good before photos because visitors can clearly recognize the entertainment center, sectional and rug in the finished room.

The Design

Instead of starting over, we focused on what would make the biggest impact. We introduced a soft pink swivel chair and deep navy seating to pull colors directly from the existing rug, then added a statement brass chandelier, oversized abstract artwork and warm wood accents.

New window treatments softened the large windows, while colorful pillows and carefully selected accessories gave the room personality without making it feel overly styled. The existing entertainment center was restyled rather than replaced, creating a much more polished focal point.

What We Updated

  • Furniture layout and space planning

  • New accent seating

  • Statement ceiling light

  • Window treatments

  • Large-scale wall art

  • Side tables and lighting

  • Throw pillows and textiles

  • Entertainment center styling

  • Accessories and finishing decor

  • Final room styling

The Finished Space

The result is colorful without feeling overwhelming and polished without losing the personality of the home. Most importantly, this project shows that a room doesn't always need to be completely remodeled—or completely refurnished—to feel dramatically different. By keeping the right existing pieces and thoughtfully adding what was missing, we created a living room that feels intentional, welcoming and finished.
