Small Bathroom With a Completely New Look
This Monroe, Wisconsin bathroom proves that a small space can still make a big impact.
The existing bathroom was functional, but dated finishes, a long laminate vanity, builder-style mirror and older lighting left the room feeling dark and utilitarian. Our goal was to create a bathroom that felt brighter, cleaner and more intentional while making the most of the existing footprint.
The transformation combines a crisp white countertop, deep navy vanity, brushed nickel finishes and patterned flooring for a bathroom that feels classic, fresh and just a little unexpected.
The Before
The original bathroom featured a long gray laminate countertop, drop-in sink, basic cabinetry, wall-to-wall mirror and an older vanity light. Although the room had a window and plenty of natural light, the darker finishes and oversized mirror made the narrow space feel heavier than it needed to. The layout itself worked, so the focus became updating the finishes and details rather than unnecessarily changing the footprint.
The Design
We kept the overall bathroom light and neutral, then used contrast and pattern to give the small room personality. A deep navy vanity grounds the room and provides a strong contrast against the bright white countertop. Brushed nickel hardware, a new faucet and streamlined sconces bring in a cleaner, more updated finish.
Instead of another oversized wall-to-wall mirror, we selected a framed rectangular mirror with softly rounded corners. The additional wall space around it allows the sconces to become part of the design rather than simply functional lighting.
The patterned gray-and-white flooring adds just enough movement to make the bathroom interesting without overwhelming the small space.
And because the home's original warm wood trim remained, the finished bathroom has a mix of new and original elements that helps it still feel connected to the rest of the house.

The Finished Space
The finished bathroom feels noticeably larger, brighter and more polished—even though we didn't need to dramatically reconfigure the room. The navy vanity gives the space a focal point, while the white countertop and lighter walls reflect the natural light coming through the window. Patterned flooring brings personality underfoot, and brushed nickel finishes keep the overall design clean and cohesive. It's a great example of how thoughtful selections can completely transform a small bathroom within its existing footprint.
